FluoBolt™- KLOTHO

Structure and biological function

α-KLOTHO is a protein that belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase 1 family. It can be either membrane-bound or secreted, with the latter being the more common form. α-KLOTHO is expressed in the kidneys, small intestine, placenta and prostate. The soluble peptide is found in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid. KLOTHO is a co-receptor of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) and plays an important role in calcium/phosphorus homeostasis regulation by e.g. inhibiting active vitamin D synthesis. It is also known as an anti-ageing hormone that prolongs lifespan by inhibiting the insulin/IGF1 signalling pathway, as shown in experiments on mice. Although there are some test systems for measuring α-KLOTHO, the currently available clinical data are not consistent. For this reason, we have chosen to use our FluoBolt ™ technology to provide a highly sensitive α-KLOTHO assay for clinical research that can improve data consistency. The determination of serum α-KLOTHO was used for research on the following topics:
